One of my least favorite things to decorate is our fireplace mantel. This is probably because I prefer things to be balanced in a traditional way but also don’t want it to seem too stuffy…or too bare; proving to make this task one I dread the most. We also have the TV and soundbar hung over the mantel- total aesthetic buzzkill.
However, lots of research through Instagram, Pinterest, blogs and design books has allowed me to develop a vision. The room is mainly blues, grays and shades of tan/brown and I plan on sticking with this color scheme but also add in more metallics, texture and pattern. And possibly some punches of bold color (looking to go out of my comfort zone)!
Below are some of the elements I plan on incorporating into the decor. The pattern and bold color in the chinoiserie and marbleized vases; texture and metallic in the quartz clusters, brass/glass display boxes and shagreen box; more metallic, height and weight from the silver candlesticks; and life and softness from a large orchid. On a side note, I’m particularly in love with the idea of putting quartz in a glass display box. So much easier to keep free of dust! (I judge a lot of things by how easy they are to clean).
