The minute the temperature drops below 75 and there is no humidity I immediately begin to dream of all things fall: pumpkin everything (although even I think things have gotten out of hand with this pumpkin spice epidemic), baking, candles ALL. OVER., red wine by the fire pit and of course, cozier clothing. Almost nothing can put me in a bad mood on a crisp fall day!
By no means do I have a capsule wardrobe but I do have a handful of pieces that I invest in + will get a lot of use out of. They are classics so they can be worn from year to year without the fear of being out of style. There isn’t a ton of color in my closet either but I do love contrast so I stick to mainly navy, white, black/gray + some pink thrown in for good measure. I also prefer clothing that doesn’t need a lot of maintenance and wears well.
In my opinion you can never go wrong with navy, leopard, and gray. Navy + gray are like black but better because they don’t wash you out as much. I still love a good black leather jacket and black strappy heels but being near the beach, navy is a season-less staple. As far as prints go, I’m not a big floral person + prefer stripes, plaid or animal print (mainly leopard). Looking back at style icons these are prints that have stood the test of time and create a polished, sophisticated look with a little bit of contrast, dimension + edge.
If you haven’t completed you fall shopping yet, here are some ideas from my fall fashion essentials that are great for the transition into cooler temps + can be worn over + over again:
vest // striped sweater // plaid shirt // scarf // navy top // jeans // sneakers // booties // cashmere wrap // tote

I love the look of distressed denim but I’m so afraid it’ll just look like I’m wearing old torn clothing and not stylish. These classic pieces are a good pairing for that to keep it from looking too scruffy.
